Playwright Checkout Rules privacy policy

Playwright Solutions LLC (“Playwright”, “we”) makes Playwright Checkout Rules, a Shopify app for discounts, discount codes, shipping and payment rules, and runs playwrightapp.com. This policy explains what data we handle when a merchant installs the app or visits the website, and what we do with it.

Effective date: October 13, 2026.

Store data we store

When you install the app, Shopify gives us access to your store under the permissions you approve. We store:

  • Store details from Shopify: the store’s name, myshopify.com address, primary domain, owner and contact email, plan, currency, time zone and billing address.
  • The access token Shopify issues to the app, used only to manage your rules in Shopify.
  • Your rules: the templates, settings and conditions you save in the app, and which of them are published to your checkout.
  • Billing records: the subscription you approved through Shopify (plan, price, status and dates). Payments are handled by Shopify; we never see card details.

Customer data at checkout

Your rules run as Shopify Functions inside Shopify’s checkout. To decide whether a rule applies, Shopify gives the Function the cart and, depending on your rules, the customer’s email address, tags, number of orders, amount spent, and shipping address.

This happens on Shopify’s platform. Your customers’ data is not sent to our servers, and we don’t store it. The only customer details we hold are ones you type into a rule yourself, such as an email address or a tag in a condition.

Website and email

  • If you join a mailing list or contact us, we keep your email address (and store address, if you give it) to reply and to send updates you asked for. Ask us at any time to remove it.
  • The website uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps the sign-in to Shopify secure, one that remembers a partner referral link, and one that remembers you’ve seen the in-app tour. We don’t use advertising cookies.
  • Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.

How we use data

We don’t sell data, and we don’t use store or customer data for advertising.

  • To run the app: save your rules, publish them to your checkout, and show whether they’re live.
  • To bill you through Shopify and show your plan.
  • To give support when you contact us.
  • To keep the service secure and fix problems.

Who we share data with

We use these service providers to run the app. They process data only on our instructions:

  • Shopify: the platform the app runs on, including checkout, Shopify Functions and billing.
  • Vercel: hosts the app and website (United States).
  • Neon: hosts the app’s database (United States).

Security

  • All traffic to the app, the website and the database is encrypted in transit (TLS). The database and its backups are encrypted at rest.
  • Requests from Shopify are verified with Shopify’s signatures before we act on them.
  • Access to production data is limited to the people who run the service, uses strong, unique passwords, and is logged by our providers.
  • If a data incident affects your store, we’ll tell you without undue delay and work with Shopify as its policies require.

Retention and deletion

  • When you uninstall the app, Shopify stops our access straight away and we stop using your store’s data.
  • 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to delete your store’s data. We then remove your store details, access token, rules and published-rule records, keeping only billing records that the law requires us to keep.
  • When Shopify forwards a customer’s request to see or delete their data, we respond to it. Because we don’t store customer data from checkout, there is usually nothing to return or delete beyond anything you typed into a rule.
  • Email addresses on our mailing lists are kept until you ask us to remove them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export the personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email support@playwrightapp.com. If you’re a customer of a store that uses Playwright Checkout Rules, contact that store, which controls your data; we’ll help them answer.

Changes and contact

We’ll update this page when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the effective date above.
