Reorder Rates

Put shipping rates in the order you want customers to see them. A Playwright Checkout Rules template for shipping options.

What it does

List rate names in the order you want. Names must match the whole name customers see, though capital letters don’t matter. Rates you don’t list keep their order after (or before) the ones you do.

Local pickup options keep their places.

For example:

  • Show rates in the following order: 'USPS', 'DHL', 'UPS'

Settings

Find it under Shipping Rules in Playwright, in Reorder Rates. Give the rule a name, fill in these settings and select Save Rule.

All or any criteria
Whether all of the conditions you set must match for the rule to apply, or any one of them. Conditions left at “All” aren’t counted. See All or any.
  • Reorder if all qualify
  • Reorder if any qualify
Eligible Customers
Which customers the rule applies to: “All”, one customer condition, or a Multi-Select that combines up to three. See customer conditions.
Eligible Carts in Checkout
Which carts the rule applies to: “All”, one cart or shipping address condition, or a Multi-Select that combines up to three. See cart conditions and destination conditions.
Line item qualify condition
Whether the item condition below must match any item in the cart or every item. It only counts when you set an item condition.
  • Qualify if any item in cart matches
  • Qualify if all items in cart match
Eligible Line Items in Cart
An optional condition on the items in the cart, checked with the setting above. For example, only when the cart has a product tagged fragile. See product conditions.
Order from
Order from first to last puts the options you list at the top, in your order. Order from last to first moves them to the bottom, so the first one you list ends up last.
  • Order from first to last
  • Order from last to first
Desired order
Rate names, in order. Only these rates move.

Example: Cheapest carrier first

  1. Order from: Order from first to last.
  2. Desired order: USPS Ground, DHL Express, UPS Next Day.

At checkout: Checkout lists USPS Ground, then DHL Express, then UPS Next Day, then any other rates.

On Shopify Functions

Playwright publishes this template as part of the Shopify customization “Playwright: shipping rules”.

  • Keep your cheapest rate first: customers shouldn’t find a more expensive rate selected for them by default.

These conditions aren’t available in shipping option rules, so a rule that uses one isn’t published:

  • Customer Accepts Marketing: Shopify Functions can’t see whether a customer accepts marketing. Tag those customers and use a customer tag condition instead.
  • Variant SKU: SKU conditions aren’t available to shipping rules on Shopify Functions. Select items by product or variant instead.
  • Has Properties: Line item properties aren’t available to Shopify Functions.
  • Gift Card Selector: Gift card conditions aren’t available to shipping rules on Shopify Functions.
  • Sale Item Selector: Sale-price conditions aren’t available to shipping rules on Shopify Functions.
  • Discounted Item Selector (discount by scripts): Shipping and payment rules can’t see the discounts your line item rules gave.
  • Subscription Item Selector: Subscription conditions aren’t available to shipping rules on Shopify Functions.
  • Cart Total Weight: Cart weight isn’t available to Shopify Functions.
  • Cart Has Discount Code: Only discount rules and shipping discounts can see which discount code was entered.
  • Cart Has No Discount Code: Only discount rules and shipping discounts can see which discount code was entered.
  • Compare to billing address: Shopify Functions can’t compare billing and shipping addresses here.
  • Discounted Cart Subtotal (applied by discount code): Shopify Functions only see the discount code itself, not its type or value.

Tag conditions match whole tags only. See Conditions and Publishing.
